A novel output power determination and power distribution of hybrid energy storage system for wind turbine power smoothing

This paper deals with the power smoothing of wind plants connected to a microgrid using hybrid energy storage system (HESS). In HESS, should be distributed between battery and capacitor such that supplies peaks its high-frequency fluctuations, compensates for rest. Besides, due relatively low lifetime batteries compared capacitors, it is preferred transfer fluctuations as much possible. this paper, methods calculating output, battery, powers are presented. The output determined based on grid restrictions SOC. decided via an adaptive low-pass filter. cut-off frequency filter specified by fuzzy controller not only spikes transferred but also SOC variations reduced. simulation results show presented speed profile, determination reduces 13.7% HESS exchanged ramp limiting method. proposed distribution method 92.6% unbeneficial charges discharges 8% condition constant utilised. experimental confirm effectiveness methods. Analysing methods’ cost proves although utilisation bank increases initial investment cost, will return after while relying units’ capacity, control etc.
